The company began in 1960 by Bruce T. Halle when he rented a building on Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His inventory consisted of only six different tires and four of them were retreads, and an air tank. Halle would run back and forth to the nearest gas station to fill his air tank, so he could put air in the tires when he sold them. This one man business eventually became one of the most recognized names in the industry. The company purchased their first automatic tire changer in 1966.
The stores in parts of California, Oregon, and Washington are called America’s Tire Company. These stores can be found online or in the local yelow pages. According to Trade Publications, both the Tire Business & Modern Tire Dealer have ranked the Discount Tire Company as the number one independent tire company retailer. These findings are based on the number of retail outlets and the company’s annual revenue. Forbes Magazine has also recognized the company by placing them at number 171 out of the 500 companies for annual revenues for a privately owned company.
Today the company offers the largest selection of tires and this includes the brands such as Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, and Discount Tire’s exclusive brands. These brands are Arizonian and Roadhugger. The company carries wheels with brands such as Enkei, Konig, Weld Racing, and exclusive brands such as MB Wheels, Victory Wheels, and Hot Wheels.
